Hello all- quick update. We have now recruited the maximum allowed number of White dads, so the survey is now open to only non-White dads from racial and ethnic minority groups in the US. This is in the interest of a representative sample that helps to contribute to fathering literature by surveying more than the frequent samples of White, married, heterosexual, biological dads. A HUGE thank you to those who have participated so far, we are so appreciative! The survey will state that it is close…

I'm sorry that it felt that way, thanks for giving it a shot and for stopping when you got to a point that you no longer felt comfortable continuing. I'm not sure which measure you're talking about, but for a little bit of background, the majority of the questions in this study are from questionnaires commonly used in a variety of research fields (mostly psychology and child development). Also, yes, I definitely agree that there are a lot of variables that impact children's behavior, especially …

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. I had not thought of the random assignment option for this project-- I really like that idea. I'm not sure that it would work for the final model that I'm building for the dissertation project, but I like the idea of using it in the future and will run it by my advisor. Thanks again for the feedback.

Yes, you are correct, this is honestly one of my favorite replies. Those questions are part of a measure of masculinity that's been used a lot across different academic fields-- but don't worry, part of my job is to see if/how answers to those questions work with the other things the survey asks. Some previous projects have chosen to collect that info (like I did) and then say ehhh let's not include those questions in our actual paper/analyses because the norms seem to have changed and not fit w…

I definitely understand! Please know I'll definitely use this feedback in making the next study. This one is a graduate school project that already has participants, so I'm limited in what I can change at this point. I appreciate your inputs though.

That's a really good point! I'm sorry about that. Sometimes in formal custody situations I've heard it called "visitation time" for dads who only get to see their kids a couple of hours a month, sometimes only with other adults around, and I wanted it to be clear that dads in those situations are welcome too. Do you think it would be better if it said something more direct like "regular parenting time" or "regular time with kids"?

Well that is definitely not what I want, hopefully it's more eye-catching now. Thanks again for letting me know.

I'm so sorry that happened! I have not gotten that feedback yet. I went in and highlighted the instructions to select the circle that indicates consent to the study, in case that's the spot that you're talking about. Thanks for letting me know.

Yes, definitely! I have been posting there and am planning to re-post there tomorrow morning. It's such a specific sample that there have not seemed to be many responses there, but I'll keep trying. Thank you!

So sorry, just for dads in the United States for this survey. But thank you for your interest!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
