If you watched the video the sentiments match up. I noticed. I thought it was just going to be about prostitution because of the Sexpat title.

The video is confusing. What is "Khmer Roux"? It's "Rouge" as in "red". And why are you discussing chicken farms in the present tense, do they even exist anymore? I'm very surprised with your completely exaggerated stuff about every house outside the capital being a shack. You know I drive into the provinces regularly and have done for many years? You will see shabby houses in some areas but for the most part they are not anything like the pictures on your video.

You don't see as man middle classes out in the provinces. The countryside is generally poorer but as a long time observer it has improved in many ways. Many people who do well in the capital will build houses for themselves or their families in the villages. The road system has improved immensely and where there was a worn-out wooden house you will see a much more modern one, owned by the same people. And as you mention there are lavish villas dotted around, generally owned by businessmen or off…

I'll have another look. I was put off early on because the narrator said some resident thought Cambodia would be like Thailand in 10 years. I've lived in Cambodia for many years and there is no doubt that there was far more prostitution apparent 20 or even 10 years ago. As the country has developed it has become more moralistic. The younger generation coming up are a bit less traditional than the older generations but it's far from ever being as liberal as far as personal behavior goes as the we…

People who own their own properties, have nice cars, have gone to university, have businesses etc. You won't generally see them in places tourists and a lot of foreigners frequent. Have a look around Tuol Kork or drop into Brown Coffee some time. The women are extremely unlikely to date foreigners, unless you are young and rich and don't mind being chaperoned for a few months.

What middle class exists in Cambodia? There's a large growing middle class. You are unlikely to meet them though unless you work in Cambodia.

Normal women in Thailand or Cambodia will have nothing to do with most foreigners. People go to these countries and think it's easy to pick up women, but they are talking about hookers.

Nah, I've lived in what you call "the third world" for 14 years, I think I would have noticed. It's nonsense.

Westerners get murdered there all the time. Nonsense.

the lax business visas. You need a work permit now.

I forget the name of the visa type, but it's something you renew every month for around $30. You're able to work with just that visa. An E-class visa is required to work, it's $30 on arrival and then renewable for 3/6/12 months (around $75/$150/$300). A work permit is required to work now, this is a lot more difficult to get than a visa and you'll be refused visa extensions if you don't have one.

I'm done with it. I'm going to teach English part-time in Cambodia. Doing so gives me enough money to live quite comfortably over there. As someone who has lived in Cambodia for quite a while I have to pull you up on that. Do you have a lot of savings? Are you qualified and experienced enough to get a well-paying job in a school? There is a surplus of young people looking for English teaching jobs here, and wages haven't gone up in a decade. If you are young and personable enough that helps, bei…

Women do the same thing, but in countries like Kenya, Ghana and Jamaica.

I've lived in Cambodia for 12 years, and was married to a local for 5, we have a kid and still get on in a civil manner. Respectable Cambodian women are very conservative and very unlikely to date a foreigner in the way people do in the west. If they do you'll be chaperoned for a good while till you prove your intentions. Most will immediately want commitment/ engagement / marriage/ children in short order. That's not to say there aren't exceptions, like widows/ divorcees/ or waitresses etc, but…

I've lived in SE Asia for more than a decade. Sure, you can "date" hookers if you like, but the vast majority of women will not date.

I do enjoy the lack of feminists ideals in south East Asian women and the traditional female role that most women in these countries seem to be happy to fill. You understand that this traditional role usually means no dating as you know it and no sex before marriage?

Yes, and then detains them at a center where they get abused by the staff. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.elmundo.es%2Fcronica%2F2013%2F11%2F10%2F527e836563fd3deb3d8b4578.html

Yes, it is misleading. This organization's credentials and reputation might be coming under some scrutiny, but that doesn't mean that there is no sex-trafficking in Cambodia.
