I already know how to read the fucking room. The problem isn't me. And of course I'm "flying solo". I don't have a group to go with.

That's a lot of bullshit, I've tried to join groups at bars and they're never interested.

This is the problem. Nobody should have to lower their standards.

There are no jobs that pay enough to be able to save enough to move

Lack of small talk isn't the issue, it's that's all there is these days. It never progresses beyond small talk

The majority of the "third places" are either dead, dying, or unaffordable.

It makes sense to me. Why would I go to someone else's house just to do what I was already doing at my own house? There's only so much you can do at someone's house before it gets boring.

With this recession, yeah. Going out is expensive. Staying home costs nothing.

It doesn't fix anything. It doesn't help anyone, it just distracts them from their problem.

Family doesn't count. And I don't live in a rural place. I have no desire to move, but even if I did, I'd need money and a place to live.

There's a clear correlation with the population's declining mental health.

I've always been as friendly and outgoing as possible yet I still have no real friends.

No, I live in a city with a population of over 69,000. Telling an isolated people to abandon their family and be even more isolated isn't good advice.

This is my reality. Even as far back as my childhood, I'd try all the time to go outside, but there were never any other kids to play with out there, so I was forced back indoors. Things aren't any different as an adult.

We have no right to play god and mess with nature. The human brain is not designed for solitude. We need to fix society instead of drugging people and messing with their minds.

Even when I did go my friends' houses, they didn't want to do anything but play video games, which I could do at my own house. Granted, there was nothing else to do.

Teens have nowhere to go. The places they traditionally hung out have ether closed down or become too expensive.

Dying in your 60s is not optimal. There's a reason we evolved living in tribes; it was necessary for survival. That's why loneliness exists. It's meant to motivate us to find a tribe, because if we don't, we die.

It's not possible to live solo because people who die much earlier. You can't live if you die in your 60s.

I don't know where to FIND a social circle. Every hobby I've tried has been empty and I don't have the money to keep going if I'm not going to meet anyone there. I can't afford to keep driving 10 miles to empty places.

I went to school, but nobody lived near me, so I had no way of seeing them outside of school. I'm 29. Plus I had major problems with bullies at school. I got depressed and lonely because of it. School ruined my life.

Social media has nothing to do with it. I don't use it. Yet when I go out, every place is empty.

It's got nothing to do with technology. I barely use it and spend most of my free time out and about. Still don't meet anyone.

I can't reach out to new people if there are no people. My old friends are long gone and I have no way to contact them.

It seems quite a lot of kids and teenagers miss the window to develop their social skills and close friendships And no, a lot of them just never get the opportunity. Where I grew up, there were never any other kids outside. I had no one to play with, so my only option was to stay inside, because whenever I did go outside, I couldn't do anything out there because I was the only one out there.

I already barely spend time online. I spent most of my time out and about and still can't find anyone. My friends all vanished after high school and I have no way of contacting them. I tried the hobby club, but it's always empty. The last thing I need is even more work, I'm overworked as is. And I'm not religious.

Young people are not choosing to stay home. Even when they do go out, a lot of them struggle to find anyone else their age. Money is also a factor. Staying home costs nothing.

They're chronically online BECAUSE they are isolated. The isolation came first.

Alone and lonely are two separate things. You ca be surrounded by people and still be feel lonely. In fact, lonely people often feel WORSE when they're around people.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/10/23 03:16 AM

This assumes that they have friends in the first place. Most lonely people don't have friends (and in many cases, have never had friends), so it's not a matter of "not talking to your friends". You can't talk to people that don't exist.

Loneliness is not self imposed at all, and has nothing to do with being in a group or not. You can be surrounded by people and still be lonely. Lonely =/= alone. Loneliness is a mismatch between a person's desired relationships and the ones they actually have. Furthermore, things were not like in this in the past. In the past, forming connections did not take effort. You just lived your life and these things happened naturally. It was the default, and it took more effort to be isolated. Nowadays…
/r/PurplePillDebate07/10/23 03:41 AM

That's not what we prefer, it's the only choice we have. I DO get off my ass and go out into the world, and I still don't make any friends.
