I divorced just over 50 with two adult kids. My dad was one of 13 siblings. So I have over 70 cousins. Good Catholic family. I'm private. I knew my ex would play games inside my family. So I told as few people as possible. My mom and dad got all the details. My brother and sister learned indirectly. And everyone else just knew my ex disappeared. The grapevine said whatever. I'm not sure. It just doesn't come up at all three years later. Good enough for me. My ex wife did in fact become a polterg…

Eh, I actually agree that splitting marital assets and debts 50/50 makes sense. Alimony should be the exception with an onus of proof on the barefoot and pregnant one to explain why she remained barefoot and pregnant. There's no social limits on that now. In fact, it may be the opposite with DEI emphasis. And I think using the most recent 10 divorces as a case study for people filing for marriage is a good idea.

My wife and I had a marriage that ran 23 years too long. We've seen every type of counselor. It was a toss up on gender for me. But my favorite was a guy. He wanted to teach what he felt was the foundation of marriage, respect. She wanted him to referee while we argued. And I think that's the biggest change in outcome. Some counselors teach skills. Some let it turn into a cage match and play referee. And I think the referee type tend to subconsciously favor based on their own meandering through …

The sun didn't rise for the 24 months it took me to divorce. Progress really only happened on the very last day. She had dragged her feet purposefully and she stupidly evaporated her money and mine. I got a $2000 bill from my lawyer each month like clockwork. But I felt changing lawyers would cost even more. That last day? We literally went from almost no progress to finishing the divorce. I couldn't believe it. Clouds parted. Choir sang. I won't lie. It was still one foot in front of the other …

A townhouse feels roomier than an apartment. No neighbors below or above. You still get a bit of noise. You might want to look for a garage too. Buy furniture from Costco or Sams. Go to Ikea or Michael's to get stuff up on the walls. Amazon prime days for silverware and similar. Depression is probably unavoidable. But it gets to be more fun as the home becomes more and more a reflection of you. A year might go by quicker than you think. If you do opt for a lease, you might want to make sure it's…

I feel men carry more of the onus of "happily ever after." It's kind of baked into society. A guy makes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. A woman wonders if she's fulfilled and, if not, who is to blame. And that's when you get an earful about leaving jelly around the lid. I'm on the dating apps. One of the common prompts is "You can win me over by ____". And girls almost always fill in "making me laugh." I may have shell shock from my divorce. But fuck. That sounds like an endless chore.

My dogs went to my parents who live 2500 miles away. So, in any practical sense, they're gone. They spent their last day in my city playing fetch in the water. It was raining. The dogs and I were soaked to the bone. We had miles of beach all to ourselves. And it's a good memory. I drove them across the nation after that. Three day trip. They did great in the car. Flying them was too difficult. And I sure as hell wasn't going to send them with a carrier. I feel your pain.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
