I see what you're saying but stepping on others comes from a feeling of self doubt or the need to prove yourself. Or you could be totally right and there's more to the story, if this is true I would personally go to him and apologize from a grounded place, knowing that this might look beta. Another thing you could try is just one day asking him what his fucking problem with you is, don't make it seem like you're attacking him, you are looking for an answer.

Try to BE the funny one, just like you need to be social to learn social skills you need to be funny to hone your skills. You will say stupid shit at first, but once you learn what kind of funny people want, you can read people you've just met. Analyze what you've done wrong and how you could do it better, get more offensive over time (not infinitely offensive just push it each time) and try not to single people out, that's beta shit.
