I can afford to buy her a shed. I do not want to buy a new shed to replace the perfectly serviceable current one. 12 months in emergency fund.

Thank you. Wasn’t trying to flex one bit. MRP works if you follow the plan. I’m just trying to get some outside perspective here and try and understand why an pretty minimal, albeit frivolous expense is creating such a shit storm. If I was spending 20 or 30 on a new car the reaction would be different.

20 years of 401k, 15 years of home ownership and a few rentals bought during the housing crisis.

This post really triggered you. Did your girl see me at the gym and come home soaked?

Classic and true. 15 years married now so I screwed that one up. Maybe I should skip the boat and straight to flight school.

Connecting with the outdoors is a passion. I think part of the problem is not including her in the vision. I’ve also talked about getting out of the city down the road and that definitely makes her feel excluded.

The in laws help us out of kindness and tradition more than making the monthly nut. They had help from their parents with vacations, school tuition, paying down mortgages, and they love to ‘help out the grannies’ with their music and sports. Don’t get me wrong it helps the budget to have some assistance. Savings rate would be lower without it.

At this point she may respect me more if I push through the resistance. I back down now and billy beta is right back in his box.

Have been spending some quality time with Dad fishing the last several years. Big improvement after years of resentment. My boy loves to come along so we do some 3 generations trips which are awesome.

Those are the numbers, doesn’t include the college funds. BUT, it is heavy on home equity and retirement. I put a big chunk of the after tax into a business investment last year. House rich and cash poor

Good point, i haven’t been painting the vision to include her well.

Building a better beta-ouch! I wonder if that’s why she snapped so hard the minute I wanted to spend some money on me.

Not badass. Feel poor in fact some times. But on track to comfortable years down the road. Lots tied up in house, retirement, and business.

Probably do suck at comfort tests. When i killed the oneitis I shifted pretty hard to DGAF. I have been spending a lot of time in the woods and rivers this year.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
