Did you get 50/50 from jump or did you have to go through a process? I’m in a similar situation as OP but get to see them every other weekend and Tuesdays. I’m in phase III of the plan. Or how did yours work?

That’s extremely encouraging. Congrats brother!

I have to go to a magistrate. My next one is in 16 weeks for unsupervised overnights. But still Tuesdays and every other weekend. Weirdly, my ex has been supportive to move to the next phases the past two. And, how long do hours go? Are you jumping straight to a normal parenting plan or is it like mine where the meaningful leap (closer to 50-50) is still a ways out. Mine would be around next march as I understand it. This has been the most brutal time of my life bar none.

Hey, I just finished the 6 hours a week phase and graduated to the every other weekend and 3 hours on Tuesdays phase. Has yours gotten any better? FaceTimes are so brutal because they’re everything for me as a Dad, but not always the same for the little ones. Anyway, wishing you the best as you navigate through this as I am doing the same.

It’s horrible for your kids. And I never buy the attorney narrative. At the end of the day, it’s her call.

I’d be interested on your attorneys thoughts but it sounds like you need a gal too. Which all of this is expensive. It’s just not fair.

First overnights are this weekend. I did do week long trip with them. But even though outside the house needs to be supervised, it’ll still be great to have them overnight again.

You know what’s shocking. My ex went from my biggest detractor time to vocally supporting my progression through the phases in the last two dv modifications. You just never can predict life sometimes.

Well, the good news is that going to a park is much better than being stuck in a small room at a center. I know from experience. I see all of these other posters can’t believe you can’t see your kids for two years with a protection order. You can, or you do like I did and pay out the ass and still have an uphill battle. We had a GAL who constructed a phased parenting plan which gave me a roadmap for proving myself. I hated the FVC process but it got me to where I am today so what the hell.

It’s not final. My situation is a bit different since I know at that moment in time, I was nutso. But other than the door, I have gone 38 years not sniffing a violent act nor being crazy. That’s why I was saying you need to get to the FVC, that’s a material change compared to now. I went 4 months without seeing my kids, so I have a taste of what you’re going through. It’s hell on a scale that can’t be quantified. Of course you want to be in their lives. But, if a judge ordered a protection order…

You need to find a way to show either your mental health around them is sufficient, or you need to show progression. If the PO was granted, I don’t see a way around it. I was unemployed for awhile. Get work as soon as you can. Or, raid 401k’s. I can’t stand to hear someone else is going through this.

I’m sorry for the unemployment. They do give me unsupervised overnights in 16 weeks. It has really sucked. But, there is no permanent custody with this. It’s until there’s another order of the court. Custody is also overrated if you at least trust her with doctor decisions, etc. Your aim is to get more time. Honestly, I don’t know what would have happened if I couldn’t go to that ungodly priced visitation center. And they are awkward arrangements. But, it’s worth it when you can swing it as it g…

I knocked a door down in a manic psychosis. The crazy part is I was crazy. And I wasn’t trying to get to her or anyone. Bipolar is a bitch when you don’t know you have it. You’re likely going to have to step up your parenting rights. Mine started for 6 weeks at a family visitation center, had the protective order modified for twice a week visitations for 3 1/2 hours a day plus all kids activities supervised. Now I have Tuesdays and every other weekend. Apparently, as this protective order eases …
