My mom passed away two weeks ago. Feeling the need to share with my ex.You know... life is short. Literally anything expressed to them in kindness will be appreciated vs. nothing at all. At 81 and 85 they could be gone tomorrow, and even if they don't respond out of respect for their daughter I am going to assume they will cherish any kind words that will lift their spirits. They're blood to your children after all. Myself, no kids... but I think the sentiment of appreciation for their love and support couldn't do anything but help. Like... who cares how it will pe… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/10/23 05:16 AM
Should I divorce before or after vowel renewal? If you believe it's beyond repair, then whyTF would you think it's a good idea to renew your vows before divorcing? It's good that you want to divorce before you take an action like cheating, but please give your wife the benefit of the doubt and recognize that her depressive state is normal and not really "her". You should want to be there for her through this dark period in her life as a measure of sticking to your vows. "In sickness and in health" | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/01/22 07:16 PM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)Absolutely, there was. It was a great relationship and I don't regret the happy times. It was how it ended as well as her two-faced actions through the divorce that soured it all. | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/04/21 09:04 PM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)In the beginning I was asking her: "Can I just write you a $100k check?" and it didn't pique her interest. That's what I felt was fair | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/04/21 11:04 PM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)I was re-analyzing and it's probably more like $435k over 6 years, but yeah 35-40%. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/04/21 03:12 AM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)The short of it is, she took $280k of our $555k net worth. Of that $280K net worth, she contributed about $120k including the $46k rental offset I had to fight for. Total damage for me was approximately $160k to make up the difference at a 50/50 split. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/04/21 02:58 AM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)Thank you. Yessir, I am very thankful to not have had kids with her and be able to cut ties. I know I'm already ahead with that alone. There's a lot I am grateful for, like keeping my two dogs and the income I'll hopefully be able to sustain to build my growth back. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/04/21 04:39 PM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)In TX, things aren't final until the date of the decree... so all the income I had coming in including my highest 4th quarter bonuses earned 3-months post filing were all considered "community property". In my case, I was fighting for an offset that wasn't far off from my next 1-2months income. Factor in lawyer fees if things got extended (per her threat of my taking half my incoming bonus), I just wanted to get it over with. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/04/21 04:20 PM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)Thank you! Yes, even I will probably need to remind myself of this awful experience in a few years time... I start thinking: "well, maybe if I get a prenup" and then you hear stories about them never holding up. 100% no benefit to marriage, only risk (unless you're the gold digger and plan all along to mooch; not my style) | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/04/21 01:59 PM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)Curious, are you aware of other states' rules on when Alimony is required? Is Texas the only one with a 10-year minimum for consideration? | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/04/21 01:56 PM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)Thank you for the kind words sir! I feel I was a bit too much a pushover, but I also think my lawyer should have done a better job too. I made mistakes, like a big one... not bringing my $315k Tax assessment valuation against her $350k comp valuation on the home (which is honestly about what it would sell for though, so I didn't feel it was unfair). I also forgot a minor detail which let her double-dip into a sale we previously arranged ($2k mistake), and didn't bring the possibility of her back… | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/04/21 02:36 AM
Just got taken to the cleaners last week... but its over :)Thankfully no alimony... in Texas you have to be married 10 years. Thank goodness! | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/04/21 01:18 AM
