Exactly. I created a trust for them as well and put my sister in charge of it. The money goes to them slowly helping pay for college and then most of it at an older age. My goal is to limit or prevent my ex influencing them or getting my money from them. She got everything she ever earned x100 already so she doesn’t need anymore.

I screwed the pooch at the beginning of my divorce. Dated a good woman 6 months into the divorce, broke up with her a year later. Sad thing was she would have been the right woman for me, I think if I had been in the right frame of mind.

She probably took the alimony buy out because she plans on getting married again and knows it’s more then she would end up getting monthly, but for peace of mind it’s worth it.

I set up a trust before marriage and put my property in it. Get a pre-nup too if you can. The more layers the better, just in case.

Just life. I’ll always be traumatized. I had unconditional love for my ex. Now it’s more the opposite. Could have been amicable but it takes two to make it that way.

Wow! Sounds like most divorce attorneys out there, really expensive and really bad. I had similar issues like my ex essentially abducting the kids and the attorney sent a letter without my permission letting my ex do it when I explicitly told her no. I missed Christmas with my kids and was really worried my ex fled the country with them. Horrible attorneys out there.

Misspoke about “total cost”. That was just attorney fees. My ex took around 600k in the end, I ended up with about 250k due to the fight over the kids. I couldn’t keep up the civil suit for moving community money to her mom’s probate because I felt child custody was more important.
