Lately, our group has reached a boiling point. People are butting heads over the finer points until they’re in a murderous rage, raging insults, spouting threats of cursing the group and quitting. On the other hand, it seems like too few people are looking for common ground, and most are only trying to proselytize their viewpoints onto others. That’s a problem for everybody I think. People come in and think they can, with a few posts or statements, make everybody swear undying loyalty to their point of view, and then when nobody jumps gleefully on their bandwagon, they get peeassed off and leave.
Please pass the popcorn.
There is another thing with fake accounts going on in the group. Some people set up fake accounts in order to tantalize others with racist and sexist provocations and then not have to face any backlash. Then there are other people who set up fake accounts so that they can pose as someone of another race in order to spread their bile or otherwise non PC propaganda. Then there are some who set up fake accounts posing as a different race simply to game play everyone to see how much offense they can get away with before someone calls them out. Then there are the self-righteous Sherlocks who try to hunt down all those people with fake profiles and try to inflict some kind of social revenge on them.
So much effing drama that we could get our own sitcom on local TV! But even though our group might show all pomp and drama at face value, I don’t believe that’s what this group is all about.
Let’s not fake our surprise. The internet is rife with posers, puppets, racists, misogynysts, and those hypocritical bigots who are against discrimination against them, but they openly discriminate against others… That’s right! A lot of people self-righteously claim, “I am offended”, but at the same time, they have no problem offending others. Hey now, to be honest, the truth itself is quite offensive. You’ve got to bite the bullet you were shot with, while your wound is being cleaned. But most people fear the pain and resist the healing process, so they continue to be hurt people who hurt people. Some are stupid enough to get caught and kicked out, and others disguise their identities and words with such cunning skill, that they pass among us, unnoticed.
Also, there have been some folks who feel that the admins are some kind of racist misogynysts, like they used to be gun slinging, Bible flipping, ultra tea party conservatives before they became beer guzzing, English teaching, ONSing, expats. I could draw a cartoon about that.
As such, there is the notion that there is a double standard towards white members of the group, like white members can get away with saying offensive things that an Asian person would not. I think this has nothing to do with the admin, but it’s because of the widely diversified blend of all our members. For example, white people get defensive when they’re called out, but when ABC’s are called out, nobody says anything. Perhaps it’s because they are underrepresented, or maybe it’s because there is a cultural and linguistic barrier to our group’s diversification, or maybe it’s because of self-biases, which color everyone’s world view into believing that our group is just like the Eurocentric world that we live in.
We need to get unstung by the WASP, man!
I will admit, our group is far from politically correct. There is enough profanity and racist language going on here to add a chapter to the urban dictionary. It takes a strong stomach to read all about the rotten underbelly of society that gets exposed on this group. We assume that our readers are mature enough to take it in, and then add their own spit to the mix. Nevertheless, a lot of really fine decent people come in here following a PC ideology and immediately get offended by all the non-PC craplets that squirt out of our @$$. When they see that our group doesn’t follow that ideology, then they leave. Some people just can’t handle a deviation from the script they were fed.
We apologize for the ugliness, but we are not afraid to get our hands dirty in order to get to the bottom of the mess. We conscientiously try to avoid playing the stooge for stereotypes or institutionalized paradigms of culture or racism. We expect other members to eventually learn how to rise above this as well.
I want the members to know that, being an admin of a group like this is really tough work. There are times when some of us get so confused, we don’t know right from wrong, and we just have to trust the judgment of the other admin. Believe it or not, the founding member recently quit the admin panel out of frustration.
I think it should be said that we consider people of all races to be stakeholders in the fight against discrimination. We need to hear viewpoints from all races and all nationalities, and we need to have the sense that we all sit at the same table and eat the same turkey and mashed potatoes at THANKS Giving.
Merry Christmas from a weary Admin.
