I have a question which I myself am conflicted about.

In a book I’m reading, They describe this girl who has a boyfriend at 16, her parents die and they end up living together on another planet, and the boyfriend goes to the US military at 18. Every time he gets 2 weeks off (like once or twice a year) he comes home to her and just trains and doesn’t spend time with her at all. When she had a conversation with him about it he tried so they ate breakfast together but it still was weird. But she stuck it out cuz they made the plan together and it was only 2 years.

He’s not very considerate of her and when she texts him or calls him with an issue (picking one example) and said it was urgent he told her how he extended his US military term from 2 years to 4 without consulting her. She obviously got mad and screamed at him because the original plan was 2 years. They never end up discussing their issue because of this. The second time he extended it to 12 years. She screamed and cried obviously and they never addressed the issue she called to talk about.

But then this guy who she kind of likes from her Uni comes and forcibly kisses her on the lips and she’s like no get off and then he goes home but she’s conflicted about it and then goes back to him and says ok we can do this but only until my bf comes for the military. And she’s finally happy with him but then the boyfriend finds out about it and there’s so much screaming for cheating and all of that .

So initially I thought oh my Gosh she’s so right she literally could have not LIVED without cheating on this guy

But like also the book goes on to portray the consequences of her actions and how hurt the guy is and now I’m wondering if the guy is right and cheating can’t be forgiven - cuz like their whole unit treats her like sh*t now even tho they acknowledge that the guy was a bad boyfriend !!! And that mind boggles me but then like also maybe they’re right ?

Anyway was looking for your opinions cuz this case seems quite complex and I’m not sure about it.
