Men create the threat of male violence, and then charge women for protection. Traditionally, women pay by giving men heirs, and raising those heirs, which will belong to the men. But of course women pay in other ways too.

Statistically, though, the patriarchal home is the most dangerous place for a child/woman. Stranger danger exists. But children are more likely to be sexually abused by a male relative. They are most likely to be sexually abused by a father or father figure. The vast majority of women who are raped or killed are victims of current or ex romantic partners they lived with.

Meanwhile, the outside world is not nearly as dangerous as women are lead to believe. You are not likely to be assaulted walking home at night. (Of course the chances increase if you let a man "walk you home.") You are not likely to be raped and killed while traveling abroad. (Again, the chances increase if you travel with casual male friends)

There are formal violent patriarchies in which women are compelled, by force, to accept male protection. Like Yemen or Saudi Arabia. These are contrived, artificial environments. There are also chaotic violent patriarchies, which arise when societies breakdown. You find these in places like Honduras or Ciudad Juarez.

But if you live or travel anywhere else, there is really no rational reason to look for male protection.

Women's belief in their public insecurity results in the underdevelopment of skills and competencies in women. I know so many women who reach the age of 30 without ever living alone, traveling alone, shopping alone, going out alone, taking up a hobby alone, renting a car or apartment without help, choosing a city to live in without help or outside influence.

This is a sort of protracted childhood.

When this has been your experience of the world you can't enter into a healthy relationship with a man. Because there's an inequality in competence. You can't offer him anything. And the only men who will be interested in you will be men who don't want and equal partner or even an equal exchange.
