Me [18 M] with my boyfriend [18 M] of 5 months, I'm not sure if I want to stay with him or not

Okay, some backstory. I met my boyfriend through a friend of mine [F 19], who used to date them. They broke up, I got together with my boyfriend, things went well for a while, then we broke up because I wanted to pursue my friend.

That didn't work out, partially due to my mishaps, partially due to external factors. Skip ahead a bit, I get back together with my boyfriend. Go further and I'm having the same issues that made me want to get together with my friend in the first place. The problem is, I'm just not sure what these issues are, and it bugs me to no end. I should say that we are somewhat long-distance, but no more than half an hour away from each other.

Complicating things is that staying with my current boyfriend is a good idea. He has a bright future ahead of him, he's agreed to let me stay with him while he goes to college, and he seems to love me dearly. My friend on the other hand, not so much. They have a much nicer personality, they seem to be more caring, they have a better outlook on life and everything, but they seem to have a fairly average future as it is.

So I've got a few options here that I've thought of.

  • Just try and ignore it, feel distant from my current partner and jealous if my friend gets into anything with someone else

  • Take a small gamble, break up with my boyfriend and hope my friend accepts me, hope my future still works out with them

  • Take a "break" with my boyfriend and work out all the tension over a period of about two weeks

All of these have their own issues, and I'm not sure what to do.

Edit: I should also say that my family would be much more accepting of me if I stayed with my boyfriend.

tl;dr: I don't know whether or not to feel bad but be secure or take a gamble but feel happier
