Rhett was MGTOW, but fell off the wagon.

He had money, was single, lived a pretty interesting life and even said that he's "not a marrying man."

Scarlet comes, seduces him, he doesn't believe her, even laughs about her trying to on one or two occasions. She eventually convinces him that she's a changed woman, he feels bad for her, decides to marry her, fixes up her estate, and she immediately runs to another man's arms. Her brother-in-law's arms to be exact. Everyone finds out, he forgives her, and then the shit keeps happening.

Finally he leaves and realizes that he had it right from the beginning. He shouldn't have given a damn about her.
