Yeah, I know. Groan...groan...

If fact, I also noticed the same thing on an American site a couple of weeks ago. (I am assuming that the convention that existed in the UK, also existed in the US up until very recently. Perhaps an American contributor can clarify whether this was so.)

What happened, was I needed to fill in an on-line form in connection with a BBC channel. On this, they firstly asked which sex I was. Now, in my memory at least, the traditional order in which this question has been posed was: Male (?) Female (?) Other (?) Prefer not to say (?)

On this form, however, the sequence was: "Female (?) Male (?) etc.

Now, I have no objection whatever to the BBC doing this. Provided they go the whole hog and update other conventions. Such as: "Men and children first!" and, "Gentlemen and ladies!"
