I see the comment made a lot on trp that it's a descriptive pill, and those comments are usually upvoted to the top.

I don't think it's entirely accurate, because a lot of trp is prescriptive in nature as well. They're often tightly coupled.

Quick explanation:

  • prescriptive: Instructional. The sub is being used for advice, instruction, and direction.
  • descriptive: The sub is just being used to shoot the shit or describe experiences to each other. Whatever solutions the individual needs (if he needs any) he'll still need to find out on his own, but he has more information and other's experiences to work with.

There's a lot of both going on. It isn't one or the other, despite what top posts I've read say that it's supposed to be descriptive. E.g. A couple of my own posts were prescriptive. Just what I thought might be helpful advice. I just wrote one last week about using volunteerism to grow, and it was well-received in general.

However, there's definitely many issues/topics for which one is more prevalent than another.
