Jealousy. Women are vindictive creatures sometimes who go green-eyed with "if I don't have it, neither can SHE"!

You also have the problem of men using the average girl to get to the hotter friends. If too many men do this in an obvious way (fucking betas) the average friends become acutely aware that they are being used. If this is the case you just siddle up to her a bit to soften her up before moving on (can also make the hot one go crazy that the ugly girl is getting all the attention - putting you in full control).

It's pretty damn stupid.

Knew a woman, as round as she was tall, whose entire social life was running blockade for her attractive friends. She got to hook up with the more desperate rejects when they got drunk enough.

The whole group was pretty whacked out. One tale involved a "pretty one" who made out with some guy who drove a Porsche (the Porsche was mentioned a lot), disgusting her friends by groping and slobbering all over the guys she'd only known an hour.

The 'pretty one' was so perplexed when the guy refused to return her calls. Go figure.
