Basically picture it like this.
You might think not getting laid is THE biggest issue in your life. There's a small chance it is, but the most likely is, you're all together a mess and among other reasons, this is why you're not getting laid.
The GOOD thing to do is looking at yourself and solving the mess, meanwhile you open chicks here and there and get laid if you will but that shouldn't be your main focus because you'll notice that if and when you get laid, you're bound to notice its excitement and fulfillment wear off quickly and you need something FAR bigger.

Now, some folks, I myself for one, are obsessive, have a fucking hard time and build up a lot of angst if they don't tackle whatever is bothering them. If one of these guys feels like not getting laid IS the biggest issue, he won't ever see the mess he might be. He has to get laid.
The BAD thing to do there is going full pick up artist and faking an attractive persona so you can get laid. The excitement will wear off just as quickly and there'll be a trap of going deeper and trying to make the PUA your real personality so you get laid more and fill the void, and that's known to not work. But these guys won't focus on anything else while they're obsessed with it, so, be it. Go dive into pick up artistry for a while.

Anyway, here's an objective answer for you.

When it comes to women, where does game get into the picture? Is it after you're good at socializing?

Make an objective assessment of your SMV. Looks, status. If you're not picking up the women you should be picking up, the ones that match you in SMV, you're short on game and should improve it asap. I spent some time here too. I had ZERO understanding of what was attractive and thought that I had to be FULL beta and pedestalize the chick, which seemed natural because I was dead scared to open.
If you want to go higher you need to increase your smv and/or your game. Increasing the SMV is a better choice for a number of reasons but some folks just won't ever score high enough. Most guys can reach the 8 mark by putting effort to it, but that's not true for the 9 mark. In this case you'll need to up your game. However you want to proceed, don't ever neglect RMV to focus on either SMV or game, but it's like don't neglect it for SMV and don't ever dream or consider neglecting it for Game.
