Are some incels actually held back more by mental illness than what they think (i.e. their looks)?

I know one in real life. His personality is similar to the guys on those message boards. He constantly whines all day. I'm not joking, all he does is whine. He's not even bad looking and has had girls interested and some were good looking, but since they weren't the type he exactly wanted he wouldn't pursue them. He also whines about being unemployed despite getting employment offers but turns down everything because he thinks he always deserves something better.

He just ruins the mood. He complains about having no friends but he won't hang out with people or when he's forced to, destroys the mood by whining nonstop. He is just very bitter and just being around him instantly puts you in a bad mood.

How many of those guys seem have severe mental problems like this more than anything else? They have chances but ruin them or refuse them and then whine about how unfair their life is.

I know some of them are legitimately held back by shitty looks or other problems.
