I recently posted here about a situation that I am having at a new job of mine. I have since managed to streamline my work with my other colleagues except one. It so happened that I was scheduled to close with said colleague today and once again, the same problem arose.
Basically we were supposed to close together and we each had our duties to do. I was making headway into mine but he kept dumping his duties on to me. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I decided to ask him directly to split duties with me so that we could get out of there quickly, it being xmas eve and all. He retorted saying that he had his duties to do and that he couldn't help me with mine (which in reality were mostly his).
Hearing this I decidedly to slow down my own pace - after all if he was going to slack, so was I. So I slowed right down. Even started whistling as I worked. A few minutes later he came up to me asking me if I had had a set back or something that was making us take longer than usual. I responded politely saying that my work load was the same as it usually was. He kept trying to talk to me (he talks a lot) but I pretty much just tuned him out. He made a couple more attempts to get a response out of me but I just kept quiet and was doing my own thing. Eventually he said that we should call it and get out of there - fine by me.
As we were signing out his tone changed. He started asking me if I was just having a bad day or something. Even went so far as to 'admit' that he was actually behind on his own stuff and wondered if there were any concerns that I wanted to voice. Told him that I was just trying to get out of there and asked if I could leave. He said ok and I left.
Thinking about the situation, it took a lot of self-restraint for me not to say anything to him at the time, as I was pretty much seething at that point, not only at his poor work ethic, but at his audacity to blame the slow close on me initially and then backtrack by 'admitting' that he was also behind on his own shit.
My plan now is to talk directly to my manager and to make this shit known. On my side is the fact that since making my last post, I have closed with three other different people besides him, on multiple occasions, and have left in good time as evinced by the sign out times on record. It is clearly only with him that my closes suffer. However he is a very good talker and will likely use that to his advantage. I'm just wondering how to maneuver this situation so that it doesn't seem like I'm instigating anything, but at the same time shows that he is in fact, the cause of our delays?
