How do you think a "decent" man should react when you tell him about the oppression of women?

What do you consider an appropriate response from a reasonable, pro-feminist man (ha, I know, it sounds like an oxymoron!) when you tell him the latest news on the war on women? For example, when you tell him about the stats on violence against women you just looked up, or how the Ohio shooter sang songs about raping and killing women.

Obviously listening to a woman is the bare minimum. But what about saying something more than "that sucks?" What could they do to show they care and they feel something (ie empathy for you as a woman) in response to this horrific information?

Do you have any examples of a male reacting appropriately when hearing about how horrible the state of affairs is for women?

Edit - I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. I'm referring to a man who is well aware of women's oppression, but since I read about women's issues daily, I often update him on what I read. I'm looking for opinions on what would be considered an empathetic response to the latest (near daily) news I tell him.
